Opposition and the Convention

Re-Elect Treasurer David Adams

Today started with the notice that I will have opposition in the June 10 Democratic Primary.  Of course, I work for the 300,000 people of Richland County and my job is really the people's job, so I am glad for the opportunity to stay in the community to discuss how my Treasurer’s Office is innovating every day to help you.

Throughout the morning I received a dozen surprise calls from people who I’ve worked with and helped in the past – all of whom are ready to roll up their sleeves with me to win our election.

Then, former State Rep. Jim Felder called to offer me his support and endorsement.  That meant so much to me as Mr. Felder was in the first group of African-American leaders elected since Reconstruction, in 1970.  We have worked together on several projects to help elect qualified Democrats in our community.  His call was humbling and inspiring.

Then the day got better as Pamela and I went to the Richland County Democratic Convention.  Of course, I’ve been attending almost every Democratic event in Richland since I came back to Columbia in 1996, and I knew almost every delegate by name (or I’ve helped or worked with them before).  We stood outside and greeted every person from 12:45 until 2:15 before things got started, and almost 90% of those people proudly displayed “Re-Elect David Adams” stickers - and more took stickers after hearing the candidates speak!

It is so nice to be told that we do a great job for Richland County in the Treasurer’s Office, and it is worth every ounce of energy we have to make sure it remains the best-run, and most helpful office in the Midlands!  Thank you!
